The Competition
Students learning Italian in Victorian primary schools and at Community Language Schools (Doposcuola) create an A3 poster on the year's chosen theme. Student work is judged by an experienced panel of teachers and community leaders. The Poster Competition encourages student creativity and interdisciplinary learning.
Sections
Entries for the Poster Competition will be accepted from students from Foundation to Grade 6 in the following sections:
- Open Competition: This section is for ALL entries in the competition.
- Teacher’s Choice: Each school is invited to nominate one student who has demonstrated a strong work ethic and positive attitude towards the completion of their poster and to Languages lessons more generally. This student’s poster may or may not be entered in the Open Competition. All students entered in the Teacher’s Choice section will receive a certificate, and trophy to be awarded at the Presentation Ceremony.
Award Categories
In each grade section, the following prizes and certificates are awarded:
- Primo Premio - First Prize
- Secondo Premio - Second Prize
- Terzo Premio - Third Prize
- Certificato di Eccellenza - Certificate of Excellence
- Certificato di Pregio - High Distinction
- Certificato di Lode - Honourable Mention
- Certificato di Merito - Certificate of Merit
- Certificato di Partecipazione - Certificate of Participation (Grade 3, 4, 5 & 6 only)
Entry forms
All entrants must be listed by the teacher on the form provided in the following manner:
All forms must be typed and submitted via email to the Competition Coordinator when posters are submitted. The form should be a Word Document. Entries will not be accepted if an electronic entry form is not provided.

- Students must be listed in alphabetical order by surname
- First Name, Surname format (i.e. Jack Nguyen NOT Nguyen, Jack)
- Do not use CAPSLOCK (i.e. Jack Nguyen not JACK NGUYEN)

Cost
A non-refundable fee of $5 per poster must be paid when student work is submitted. This is to cover the administrative costs of the competition.
Level descriptions
Foundations: Grade 1 and 2

At this level, students write noun groups containing more than one element. Noun groups adhere to relevant number and gender rules. All words are spelled correctly. The written and visual texts combine to enhance a common meaning. |
Pregio |
At this level, students write noun groups containing more than one element. Noun groups adhere to relevant number and gender rules. All words are spelled correctly. The written and visual texts combine to enhance a common meaning. |
Lode |
At this level, students write singular nouns and/or noun groups composed of one or two elements. Determiners, if used, usually agree with nouns. Most words are spelled correctly. The written and visual texts combine to convey a common meaning. |
Merito |
At this level, students write single nouns. The written and visual texts combine to convey a common meaning. |
Grade 3 and 4

At this level, students extended noun groups or simple sentences in Italian. Sentences, if present, are appropriately punctuated. Nouns often appear in isolation or do not agree with the other elements of the noun group. The poster contains a visual and written text. |
